Jürgen Wolf was born in Bad Mergentheim, Germany.
He studied organ and musicology in Würzburg and Heidelberg, furthermore was active in organ building and afterwards he was educated in conducting by Sergiu Celebidache.
He finished the studies of sacred music with A-exam in Vienna.
His earliest primary interests were directed towards practise of historical performance, particularly the interpretation of Bach’s music.
In 1992 he achieved the „Magister artium“.
Numerous courses and private studies completed his competence.
In 1993 he was appointed to St Nicholas Church in Leipzig as Nikolaikantor and organist.
Apart from that Jürgen Wolf is acting as composer (1999 winner of Bayreuth composer award „Geistliches Lied“), conducter of various ensembles and orchestras (Telemann Academy Japan, Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig) and as lecturer in international master courses for organ and cembalo. He has recordings for radio, TV and CDs regularly, for example with Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.
Engagements as conductor and organist led him to Japan, USA, Ukraina, Swiss, France, Italy and Norway.
The restauration of the Ladegast-organ in St Nicholas Church was initiated and shaped by Jürgen Wolf. Because of his effort the ethusiasm of the future main sponsor for the project, the Porsche AG, was awoken. In this tight cooperation arised a fantastic instrument with international reputation.
Since 2006 Jürgen Wolf is conductor of Open-Air-Final-Concert of Leipziger Stadtfest performing „Carmina Burana“, Beethoven 9th symphony and Richard-Wagner-OpenAir-Program. In 2008 he founded the Festivalorchester Leipzig.
